Hammock Analysis

This experiment shows how different structural, programmatic, and environmental factors can affect the design of space.  Stresses are applied to various points on the mesh, which represents the evolution of the spaces over time.

  1. ...just came across this (somewhat graphic) surgical "whipple procedure" and it reminded me of your architectural hammock. The manipulation of the pancreas, artery, etc. in order to accommodate treatment of the cancer might be a helpful way of looking at the purpose of manipulating parts of the building. While the design formations could be limitless, as the designer (like the doctor) you can assert a few preferred positions (one for moving the masses, another for provided small group spaces, and a few configurations that help ward off a few key environmental conditions: direct solar heat gain, strong winds, etc.).
